OOPS : Object Oriented Programming


Object-oriented programming (OOP) is a programming language model organized around "objects" rather than "actions" and data rather than logic. Historically, a program has been viewed as a logical procedure that takes input data, processes it, and produces output data.
The programming challenge was seen as how to write the logic, not how to define the data. Object-oriented programming takes the view that what we really care about are the objects we want to manipulate rather than the logic required to manipulate them. Examples of objects range from human beings (described by name, address, and so forth) to buildings and floors (whose properties can be described and managed) down to the little widgets on your computer desktop (such as buttons and scroll bars).





Getting started with object oriented programming



The first step in OOP is to identify all the objects you want to manipulate and how they relate to each other, an exercise often known as data modeling. Once you've identified an object, you generalize it as a class of objects (think of Plato's concept of the "ideal" chair that stands for all chairs) and define the kind of data it contains and any logic sequences that can manipulate it. Each distinct logic sequence is known as a method. A real instance of a class is called (no surprise here) an "object" or, in some environments, an "instance of a class." The object or class instance is what you run in the computer. Its methods provide computer instructions and the class object characteristics provide relevant data. You communicate with objects - and they communicate with each other - with well-defined interfaces called messages.

The concepts and rules used in object-oriented programming provide these important benefits:
  • The concept of a data class makes it possible to define subclasses of data objects that share some or all of the main class characteristics. Called inheritance, this property of OOP forces a more thorough data analysis, reduces development time, and ensures more accurate coding.
  • Since a class defines only the data it needs to be concerned with, when an instance of that class (an object) is run, the code will not be able to accidentally access other program data. This characteristic of data hiding provides greater system security and avoids unintended data corruption.
  • The definition of a class is reuseable not only by the program for which it is initially created but also by other object-oriented programs (and, for this reason, can be more easily distributed for use in networks).
  • The concept of data classes allows a programmer to create any new data type that is not already defined in the language itself.
Simula was the first object-oriented programming language. Java, Python, C++, Visual Basic .NET and Ruby are the most popular OOP languages today. The Java programming language is designed especially for use in distributed applications on corporate networks and the Internet. Ruby is used in many Web applications. Curl, Smalltalk, Delphi and Eiffel are also examples of object-oriented programming languages.

o understand electromagnetic waves, one must first understand electric and magnetic fields and how they interact. Electric fields make electric charges attract or repel each other. Similarly magnetic fields cause magnetic forces.
There are two basic types of electric charges. They are positive and negative. In atoms, protons have positive charges and electrons have negative charges. Electric forces between the protons and electrons cause the electrons to orbit the nucleus. Like charges, such as two protons or two electrons, repel each other. Unlike charges, such as a proton and an electron, attract each other. These attractive or repulsive electric forces are governed by Coulomb's Law.
The protons and electrons are not actually in contact, so how can they exert forces on each other? We can't push or pull something without actually touching it, so why should electric charges be able to? The answer is electric fields. Any electric charge creates an electric field. An electric field exerts a force on another electric charge. Electric charges exert forces on each other via electric fields.
In a similar manner magnets attract or repel each other via magnetic fields. A magnet has a magnetic field which can exert a force on another magnet or a piece of magnetic metal.

How Electric and Magnetic Fields Interact

Wrap a wire around a nail and connect the wire to a battery. When an electric current passes through the wire, the nail becomes magnetic. Why? The electrons in the wire create electric fields. When there is an electric current the electrons are moving through the wire. Moving electrons set up changing electric fields. Changing electric fields cause magnetic fields. The nail becomes magnetic. All magnetic fields are in some way caused by changing electric fields. In a similar way changing magnetic fields, like electric charges, cause electric fields.

This book will discuss the topic of Control Systems, which is an interdisciplinary engineering topic. Methods
considered here will consist of both "Classical" control methods, and "Modern" control methods. Also, discretely sampled systems (digital/computer systems) will be considered in parallel with the more common analog methods. This book will not focus on any single engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, chemical, etc.), although readers should have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of at least one discipline.

This book will require prior knowledge of linear algebra, integral and differential calculus, and at least some exposure to ordinary differential equations. In addition, a prior knowledge of integral transforms, specifically the Laplace and Z transforms will be very beneficial. REVIEW OF 4th EDITION:
'it goes without saying that this is a thorough, in depth review of chest medicinr and as far as I could see, leaves nothing out. I was pleased to see this is a book for active physicians rather than researchers or scientists. It is aimed saqurely at the specialists but generalists such as GPs or specialists in other but related disciplines would also find this book a good reference source. I also liked the principal that associated non repiratory problems are covered in detail. Take for example, Sarcoidosis which has always been classified as a chest deisease but is also a multi system disease. Teh chapter on sarcoidosis is an excellent review of the whole topic and not just the pulmonary aspects. In addition there are excellent chapters on issues that you don't always findsuch as air pollutionm high altitude and diving medicine.
